All New Reports Have Now Landed

Just launched on every TSheets account: all new Reports, designed to improve the look, feel, speed and functionality of the entire reporting feature.

Reporting is the real end game of time tracking. It’s when and where the numbers and other information recorded over the course of business—including time and GPS stamps, job codes, PTO, approvals and so much more—can be put to real use.

From payroll to job costing to employee supervision to billings—our new reporting feature opens up a whole new world of versatility and viewing options. Quickly drill down to details based on the time frame, employee, client, project, and other reporting filters with interactive graphs and data. You can also export info and keep track of exceptions, like approvals.

Take a test drive of the new functionality under “Reports”. Check out a project, payroll or approval report under the “commonly used” tab. If you need some time to get used to the new feature, just select the legacy timesheet report on this tab.

Feedback makes everything better. So send word on what you like and would like to see on the new reporting feature by emailing help@tsheets.com.

  3. We are continuing to use the legacy report because after much searching we are unable to find a report that includes to notes we put on the time sheets as well as giving weekly totals of hours.
Please advise if there is a report that gives all this and we would like to use it.

    Hello Leeann,

If you try running the payroll report, and then click on an individuals name, you will see all of these details expand out beneath them. This will include their daily totals, weekly totals, and all of the notes for each individual timesheet. Feel free to read more about it here.

If you have more questions specific to your account, give us a call or send an email so that we can work with you to find a suitable legacy report replacement!

    Thank you,
    Victoria

    Hi Victoria

2nd attempt at this..Browser deleted first attempt.

We have had a look through the reports and followed your suggestions, however that only creates additional work for us.

The benefit of the legacy reports is that all the information we require to process payroll is on the one page.

The “PAYROLL TOTALS” report is the one that gets close, but still falls short in two critical areas:
    1. We need the “NOTES” to be displayed at the end of the row (column K will surfice)
    2. We need the total number of days worked to be displayed (replace column B if necessary), or immediately adjacent total hours.

    Looking forward to your reply
    Kind regards
    Gareth

@Gareth Carter, Hi there, because this is such an account specific question, I’ve gone ahead and forwarded this onto our ticketing system so that this can be looked into.

Please keep an eye on your email account for a response from the TSheets Support staff, and in the meantime, I hope you’re having an awesome day!

    Thanks,
    Victoria

  4. I agree with Leeann, I’m all for progress, but I cannot see a new report which provides the same level of detail as the Legacy time sheet reports. If the new reports are geeting no further updates, I would encourage you to leave the Legacy one in place also.

    James,

I would also suggest that you see the expanded detail version of the Payroll Reports as well, you can view them here. Also the new reports are getting plenty of constant updates and changes made from people like yourself submitting feedback. You can do this by clicking on the “give feedback” link visible when you run a payroll or project report.

Thanks for sending in your comments and concerns!

  5. Sorry folks, I’m with the old guard as well. The new reports appear to have >some< good functionality, but when I want to see everything at once without having to click through to a different page and try to remember what was on the previous one; well nothing (yet) beats the legacy sheet.

    Tim,

There’s no need to apologize – we love hearing the feedback! I’ve already added your comment to the reports feedback page to discuss with the development team, so keep checking the new reports for updates.

    Thanks for the feedback,

  6. I too prefer the legacy sheet, although I understand that what is happening may be the awkward version of what is envisioned. Doesn’t work for me yet, but I will keep trying.

  7. Why ist ist not possible to run AND export normal project reports anymore??? This is insane!!! I only can export timesheets ie. the brakdown but no total!?!?!?!?! On the other hand I can hav teh total but no breakdown??? Who is responsible for that bull…t????

    [Reply]

  8. The ‘legacy’ report is the only report that gives me everything I need at a glance and printed in minimal pages….each ee’s actual clock time, OT, PTO & totals. Please don’t change this.

    [Reply]

  9. We are very dependent on the legacy report. Please do not change.

    [Reply]

  10. We use the legacy report to bill tasks to our clients and I cannot find any other report that gives me all the data in a raw format which then allows manipulation in excel. If any of the other reports provide this raw information please let me know – otherwise please leave the legacy report where it is.

    Hi Steve Cook,

It looks like you’re looking for a Project Report, and then export all of the individual timesheets by clicking the Download Individual Timesheets button. This will allow you to use Excel to customize the reports any way you need them to look.

I hope that this helps you out, but be sure to send us an email or give us a call if we can get you more detail on using the new reports.

    Thanks,
    Victoria

  11. The legacy report gives me the information I need to do our allocations by project. Your new reports look fine and if I personally was in charge of doing payroll, probably helpful. However, they are not giving me the detail I need by project.
Now – if you had a report that gave total hours by project rather than by employee, you would have a great report!
    Thanks

  12. Is there going to be any webinars or other training information to help us transition? It would be helpful to see how all of the changes will make our lives easier. It’s a little frustrating now.

    [Reply]

  13. Please do not get rid of the Legacy report. I cannot tell you how much time I have wasted trying to get the same information that Legacy gives me. Not to mention the phone calls I get from clients that cannot find what they are looking for.

    [Reply]

  14. The legacy reports give daily details we use to hand out with our paychecks. the new reports do not have anything that is this useful to us, I am afraid if the legacy reports disappear we will be leaving as well. Unless a new report that gives the same information is given

  15. the legacy report is the only report that gives me all the information on one page, multiple employees, different job codes, notes, paid time off, etc without this feature time sheets would be of little use to me and my company.

  17. I’ll add my voice to the choir supporting the Legacy report. I heavily use the notes field, and it’s important to me that my clients receive PDF reports with exact details of tasks I’ve completed. If this functionality disappears, I’ll have to switch time-tracking providers. Thanks.

    [Reply]

  18. I am with the rest of you – the “Legacy” report is the one which suits our needs best. Why anyone wants to get rid of this report is beyond my understanding. We may need to look elsewhere if this report gets gone.

    [Reply]

  19. Ditto on the Legacy Report. Too many compromises with the new reports. The Legacy is the closest to what we need so we can track weekly activites as well as bill clients accurately.

  20. It seems like there are a lot of questions and concerns about these new reports – and rightfully so, it’s quite a big change! But, we want to be sure to let you know that we aren’t going to remove the old reports without ensuring that we’ve addressed all the concerns – or at least as many as humanly possible!

With that said, keep your eyes on the new reports for constant changes, updates, and new features and also keep an eye on the legacy report if it’s the one you’re still using. The blue box at the top will give you a heads up about if and when the legacy report will be disabled, and it will be with plenty of notice so nobody gets a nasty surprise one day.

In the meantime, to learn more about using these reports, please see our User Guide page about them here:

    http://wiki.tsheets.com/wiki/Timesheet_Reports

Also, as you develop new questions about these reports, don’t be afraid to be vocal! We want to hear what you think, and what you want to see, so let us know with a comment here, by emailing our support team at “help@tsheets.com”, or by calling into our main support line.

Thank you all so much for your feedback, and keep it coming!

  21. The thing with the new exports is that it makes it more customizable, IF you have the time and know how. The old reports were there as a pdf ready to be emailed, printed etc. dont get me wrong these new reports give great amounts of information but its limited to the screen.

@Mike Matre, Don’t worry! We won’t be getting rid of the legacy report until we’ve made some additional progress on the Payroll and Project reports. There are a lot of exciting new features in the future that will help ease the adjustment from the old to the new.

  23. The legacy report provides payroll details that cannot be found in any of the reports in the new list. Every two weeks since the update, I try and run a new report, but can’t find what I need all in one report, and I’m not interested in drilling down for information if I want to have a look. I want to see the daily hours detail, and weekly totals for all employees in the two week pay period. As I said, every two weeks, I waste half an hour trying to find a useful report and wind up going back to the Legacy Report. It works! Don’ t try and fix it! The only thing I can complain about the legacy report, is I haven’t found a way for it to total all the employee hours.

    Victoria Reply:

@Sue Kwapich, I can imagine this has been frustrating for you, and the goal of these reports was to make things easier and faster, not make payroll a pain. I know that waiting probably isn’t what you’d like to hear, but I can assure you that there are a lot of changes coming to the payroll and project reports that will fill the void of the legacy report. In the meantime, don’t worry, you’ll still have access to the legacy report – we don’t want to leave anyone high and dry!

Also, for a report that just gives you the straight up total hours, I would suggest that you try running one of our Dual Filter reports located under the Tracking section. There, you’ll see an Hours by Employee report. Run that one, and set the bottom drop down option to also filter it by Full Job Code. Then download the grid CSV file, and voila! Total hours of each employee, of each job code, and cumulative totals for the specified date range.

Thanks for your feedback, and keep checking on the Payroll and Project reports – the developers are adding new functions, features and fixes every week!

  24. I too am very frustrated about this change. However, if I could just ignore the “new & improved” reports, that would be fine. But the problem is that you seem to have constrained the legacy reporting feature such that I now cannot run reports on as long a period. Perhaps the limit is really on the size of the resulting file to be downloaded, but regardless the outcome is that I not cannot run the usual reports any more!

What I need is a straight download of the database (all employees, all job codes, all comments) into a flat csv file, on which I then run pivot table reports in Excel. That used to be easy (though not quick), but now I cannot do it at all. Even using the old legacy reporting… and I am not willing to spend the time making twelve 1-month requests and manually concatenate the results just to get the full year.

There are some reports that really could be useful, for example to identify everyone who has not reported any time for a weekday, or less than 40 hours for a week, etc. That’s a basic need for companies that ask their salaried employees to track all of their time. This slew of poorly-labeled new reports look better but don’t do anything for me.

    Simpler is better, guys.

@Thierry Marbach, I’m sorry to hear that the new reports aren’t working well for you yet, but I hope that after the next few rounds of updates are made that they will be a better fit for you. If you’re really looking for just that download of all the raw data, you can find it in the Payroll Reports. After running the report, click on the Exports tab and you’ll see an option to download the Individual Timesheets in a CSV format.

If you give that a try, but it still isn’t the information you’re looking for, I would be happy to work with you further on this to ensure that we do have a good solution for you. Just click the Send Feedback button at the bottom of the report window and send me a note outlining what you need in the report. I will be able to get back to you faster there than in a comment post.

    Thanks Thierry!

  25. From all of our users at our business – we would suggest they not get rid of the legacy report. It works the best for us. And I would hope from the comments that they really consider this. The new reports might look better and be more efficient for those who have developed them, but from reading above – its not for those of us using them daily.

Tell us why you think you need to phase it out – do you want to phase out some of your clientele also? We are not open to spending more money because personnel are having to take more time on working with the reports. I didn’t realize you were phasing it out until one of our managers approached me.

@Suzanne, Our goal in building these new reports is to give people more options, more control and more stability. I can assure you that we don’t plan on getting rid of the legacy report until we’re sure we have made people happy with the new reports. I would love to hear more detailed feedback from you about the new reports, so when you have a moment either send in an email to our support@tsheets.com address, or click the send feedback link at the bottom of the reports window.

  26. Please do not phase out the legacy reports. I nearly had a heart attack when I saw that sentence. As this report, in its current format is key to us, and if changed would distrub a lot of other key management control reports, which would be time consuming and costly to us. We would obviously have to reconsider all of our options at that point.

  27. @Victoria, As the person responsible for finding TSheets and teaching the rest of my company how to use it, I’m at a loss as to how these new reports are anywhere near as efficient as the old ones. Sure, they’re pretty… But they make it pretty much impossible for me to bill my clients.

For example, the Legacy Report’s usefulness has been severely hampered by the limit you’ve placed on it. 6 Two-Month reports is, in a word, aggravating. I miss being able to see *everything* I have done for my client. I have had certain clients working with me for over a decade. Can you imagine my annoyance when I discovered that I can’t see my work in year time spans anymore? It seems to me that a large portion of your users rely on the Legacy Reports just as heavy as I do. There has to be some way for you guys to see that. Redesign the Legacy Report to look as fancy as the new ones do, but leave the perfect functionality alone, and I can guarantee you that your customers would be extremely happy. I know I would be.

Let’s talk about the Project Reporting. This would be useful IF AND ONLY IF I could download it as a PDF file. Only being able to export the Timesheets as a CSV file is killing my ability to track the work I’m doing for my clients.

Filtering by job codes should be available on *every* report, not just certain reports. I know that would solve a lot of the issues that I’m having. Adding it to the Payroll Report would be a great start.

If the development teams ignores everything else, I wouldn’t really care, as long as this one sentiment got through to them… PLEASE ALLOW ME TO PRINT PROJECT REPORTING IN A PDF FORMAT. As the reports stand, the CSV files are not useful in anyway for our company. I know they are for thousands of other companies around the world, but it doesn’t work for this one. So please, give every report the same chance of being useful and allow every report to be downloaded in CSV, Excel, and PDF.

    Victoria Reply:

@Allyson, I really appreciate you giving me all this detail here, and it sounds like the future of the Project Reporting will be exactly what you need! The developers are still making some substantial changes to the Project Reports, and in the end I believe that a printable or PDF option is going to be included because, you’re correct, many people do want this option. In the meantime, before those options become available, it sounds like you might want to try using our Invoicing system, especially if you’re using it to bill clients. You can read more about our invoicing to see if it will be a good fit for you here:

    http://wiki.tsheets.com/wiki/Invoicing

If you still have any questions or concerns about these new reports, please don’t hesitate to send in another message to our help desk at help@tsheets.com so that we can get back to you in a more timely manner. If you haven’t seen our previous responses, be sure to check the spam folder in your email account to see if our answers got tucked away in there.

Thank you for the detailed feedback, and I hope that you’re as excited as we are about these new Payroll Report changes that are on the horizon!
