Rideau Embarks on Time-Tracking Future

“We make the impossible, possible,” notes Jennifer Freire, HR coordinator for Rideau, a worldwide corporation that provides proven recognition strategies and a comprehensive suite of tailored recognition and reward programs designed to return real value to people, businesses and shareholders.

Headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, Rideau serves high-level clients, including the Royal Bank of Canada, Liberty Mutual and Boeing, with a support staff backed by consultants, a sales force, administration, project managers, developers, and account coordinators.

With such a dynamic, wide-ranging workplace, tracking employee time for payroll and billing purposes was formerly fraught with pitfalls.

“We had a word doc that would be printed out or sent on a computer. People weren’t tracking against tasks,” says Jennifer. “We had no way of tracking what they were doing, on what client, and how much time was spent. Even in terms of vacation, it was very difficult to manage.”

Rideau began the implementation of a system that seemed to come with complications, but halted the process midway after a Google search made by the VP of business development. That search uncovered TSheets, and Rideau has never looked back.

“We started out with a demo of the system,” comments Jennifer. “We believed in TSheets. They were flexible and innovative, and willing to work with us. No two clients work the same. We have completely different labor laws in Canada. But TSheets sees each client as their only client. TSheets helped us get where we are with the system, and we helped them develop new features for our industry.”

To gain employee buy in for the big change over, Rideau highlighted a TSheets-improved overtime collection system for employees who were working unpaid extra hours in the day. Staff can now bank time to use later as personal time off, and can see where time is going by
tracking against clients and projects. One side effect of the improved process is the ability to price contracts in real time.

“TSheets never said no to anything. They never said no we can’t, no it’s not possible,” comments Jennifer. “At Rideau, we’re the same way. Innovative and flexible, and always looking to the future.”
